Equipment analytics overview showing payback progress and performance metrics

The problem with tracking rental performance

Most equipment owners know roughly how much they earn per month, but not per item. Spreadsheets get stale. Mental math is wrong more often than right. And generic accounting tools were not built for rental businesses.

Without item-level tracking, you cannot tell which gear has already paid for itself, which is close, and which might never get there. You end up holding onto underperformers and second-guessing every purchase.

Rental IQ calculates return on every item automatically from your actual rental history, so every dollar is accounted for.

How it works

1

Import your rental data

Upload a Sharegrid CSV export or connect your email to pull in transaction history automatically. You can also log off-platform rentals by hand.

2

Enter your purchase costs

Add what you paid for each piece of equipment. Rental IQ uses that number as your cost basis for all earnings calculations.

3

See payback progress instantly

Every item gets a payback percentage showing how much of its cost you have recovered. Items that have earned back their full purchase price are marked as paid off.

4

Track trends over time

Revenue dashboards show monthly earnings, growth rates, and year-over-year comparisons. Depreciation estimates show what your gear is worth today based on condition and market data.

What makes this different

Built on real rental data

Every number comes from your actual transactions, not estimates or industry averages. Every calculation traces back to a specific booking.

Item-level granularity

See payback, earnings, and depreciation per item, not just totals. Compare any two pieces of equipment side by side.

Depreciation that reflects production gear

Generic depreciation curves assume office equipment or vehicles. Rental IQ uses market-aware estimates tuned to cameras, lenses, lighting, and audio gear.

Automatic fee tracking

Sharegrid fees, multi-day discounts, and promo discounts are broken out automatically. You always see net earnings, not gross.

Who it's for

Solo owner-operators

If you rent out a few pieces of your own production kit on the side, analytics shows you whether that gear is actually paying for itself or just sitting in a case.

High-volume renters

When you have 15+ items generating income, you need to know which ones carry the portfolio and which ones drag it down. Sort by payback, earnings, or popularity to find the answer fast.

Rental houses

For a rental house managing inventory across multiple renters, Rental IQ gives you a portfolio-level view of total investment vs. total return, plus the ability to drill into any single item.
